Home to the Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet, the Theatre Royal is a multi-purpose venue presenting a wide variety of drama, dance, comedy, musicals and children’s theatre. The magnificent façade of the refurbished foyer marks a unique landmark in the heart of Glasgow. Opened in 1867, the Theatre Royal is the oldest theatre in Glasgow, and also the largest example in Britain of a theatre designed by architect Charles Phipps. Built in the shape of a horse-shoe with classical columns and ornate baroque-style golden plasterwork, the auditorium is a truly impressive venue with great audibility, and a real destination for large scale events. With seating for up to 1544 guests,  the Theatre Royal auditorium is the perfect venue to amaze and delight your guests. Your hire can be adapted to suit your every need by opening different levels, offering breakout spaces in our foyers, and providing the highest standards of hospitality – all with a touch of theatre glamour.

Following a major renovation in 2014, the contemporary extension of the Theatre Royal offers a visually striking façade onto Cowcaddens Street, and provides us with four elegantly designed reception spaces. Constructed with a dramatic spiralling staircase and floor to ceiling windows, our foyers are exquisitely bright and spacious areas with an impressively panoramic view from the higher levels. Each of our foyers enjoy full bar facilities, as well as cloakroom services and lift access. These impressive spaces are perfectly suited to a variety of gatherings, including drinks receptions, exhibitions and fairs, dining events, and corporate breakout spaces.

Passing through our old Victorian foyer and up the original grand staircase to the Dress Circle, our Hemmings suite has been thoughtfully designed to connect the old with the new at the Theatre Royal. Our bespoke function space perfectly combines Victorian decadence with modern functionality, creating a flexible and adaptable space for a variety of events and gatherings. Benefitting from its own kitchen and bathroom facilities, retractable divide wall, AV equipment and space for multiple table layouts, the Hemmings suite is ideal for a range of corporate functions and private parties.

You can also elevate your event at the Theatre Royal with our balcony foyer and stylish rooftop terrace. Situated on the highest level of the venue, our balcony foyer is a welcoming space with a light and open atmosphere. Not only is this space perfect for drinks receptions for up to 100 guests, the foyer can also alternatively accommodate theatre style seating for up to 60 guests, with our rooftop terrace providing the perfect breakout space. With spectacular views of the Glasgow city-scape spanning as far as the Campsie Fells, the terrace is an enviable place for guests to unwind and take in their surroundings, or even host a summer BBQ in the warmer months.
